Meet the team: Steve Reddington

We continue this week’s Meet the Team blog with Steve Reddington from Warehouse!

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m 35 this month, married. I live in Bradwell-on-sea; it’s not too far, I recently moved there. I’ve been married 9 years now, I have 3 step-children, they’ve all moved out. We’ve got a bulldog called Bubbles and I’ve got 2 cats.

How long have you worked for Kingdom?

In total, I’ve worked for Kingdom for 7 years. I had a 2-year break and I’ve recently come back. When I first started I was a van driver and I worked my way into the warehouse, then I was Assistant Warehouse Manager and then took over as Warehouse Manager.  And then left in 2018 and I’ve just come back, I came back as assistant warehouse manager and now we’ve had our restructure I am now Warehouse and Logistics Team Leader.

What does your typical workday include?

Typical workday would include lots of chasing up couriers; booking same day couriers; organising the vans; planning van drivers; organising the warehouse staff; picking and packing; getting goods ready to go out same-day and planning the routes for the next day.

What do you do outside of work?

Outside of work I like playing golf, following Spurs, bit of golf, bit of fishing. And like I said I just moved into the new house so there lots of gardening and DIY.

What Is your favourite thing about working for Kingdom?

The unpredictability, you have a day planned out and then at a drop of a hat, it can all change. You have to think on your feet, it’s a fast-paced environment. I like having to react fast and the ongoing organising, not one day is the same.

When you were younger what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a police officer or a primary school teacher, mainly a police officer.

What was the last book you read and last film you watched?

I like my autobiography’s, so the last book I read was football-related, it was Mauricio Pochettino’s autobiography, that was really good. The last film I watched was rubbish actually, it was Borat 2.

Describe your job in 3 words.

Challenging, exciting and unpredictable

What was your first-ever job?

Saturday boy at a butchers with my dad, my dads a butcher. So from the age of about 13, I was working Saturdays with him, started young. And then I was a bricklayers apprentice when I left school.

Who is your favourite person at Kingdom?

Just so he doesn’t sulk I’ll say, Will, I’ve worked with Will the longest. He’s reliable and we get on well, we talk about football a lot. I get on really well with Martin as well, and then I like Graham; I get on well with Jody, I get on well with Mel, I get on with everyone, it’s a hard question but yeah Will.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I love a power ballad, singing along to power ballads in my car when no one else can hear me

If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

Time travel, the ability to go both past and future. Work-wise you can see what’s gonna happen the next day. On a deeper level, you can go back and see loved ones you don’t see anymore
